TGIF!!!

Since it’s Friday, we play for double XP in Competitive Wordle (see below). We also waste little time on preambles, because it’s almost the weekend and I have things to do! Places to go! People to see! Games to play! Shows to watch! Posts to write!

I’m busy, y’all. Let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: Happen.

The Clue: This word has a double letter.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Not bad at all. I started with vices because lord knows I have enough of them, and that worked in my favor with just 29 words to choose from and a green ‘C’. I went with all new letters for my next guess, molar, and slashed the options down to just 1: occur for the win!

Today’s Score

I tied the Bot so that’s 0 points, but I got it in 3 so that’s 1 point x 2 for 2XP Friday for a grand total of 2! Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “occur” comes from the Latin verb “occurrere,” which means “to run to meet, to come up against, to run towards.” The word is derived from the prefix “ob-” (meaning “toward”) and “currere” (meaning “to run”). Over time, the meaning of “occurrere” evolved in Latin to refer to things that come to mind or present themselves.

By the time the word was adopted into Middle English as “occur,” it had taken on the meaning of “to happen” or “to take place.” The evolution of the word’s meaning from its original Latin context to its current English usage highlights the fluidity of language and how words can shift in meaning over time.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
