VaatiVidya Has Played Through The Old ‘Armored Core’ Games To Try And Understand The Series

With Armored Core VI released this August, VaatiVidya has done the decent thing and actually gone back and played through the old Armored Core games to understand more about the series.

If you are unfamiliar with VaatiVidya, he has historically done a lot of great videos about the Souls games. Giving advice and breaking down the nuanced lore.

He has a sizable following and is rightly respected by a lot of players in the Souls community. This is because he clearly plays these games thoroughly.

So when Armored Core VI was announced, like many people he was at a disadvantage having not played the older games.

He did some initial analysis of the Armored Core VI trailers, but he was sensible enough to realize that he had to play the older games to really understand what was going on.

And that’s exactly what he’s done. In his latest video (shown below) he’s gone through and played the older Armored Core games to understand how this long running series actually works.

I may not agree with his analysis and he does get a few things wrong, but I definitely respect the effort here.

Little things like not knowing the bio-sensor in the head parts in order to target the alien bosses at the end of Armored Core 2. Or that you face two Nineballs at the end of the first Armored Core. Not to mention that large missiles can take down Nineball Seraph very quickly at the end of Armored Core Master of Arena.

However, to actually play through these games and finish them is the right approach to have taken here.

The Armored Core games can be incredibly challenging, much more so than the Souls games, so to play and finish any of the old games in order to understand what makes them tick is definitely noteworthy and somewhat refreshing.

In that most modern games journalists would never bother to investigate a series like Armored Core this thoroughly, and many didn’t even try to play these games properly back when the games were originally released.

Anyway, having spoken a bit with VaatiVidya he’s clearly a very nice guy and definitely cares about covering the Armored Core games properly.

As someone that has played and finished all the Armored Core games since the 1997 original, I am relieved that someone like VaatiVidya has put the effort in to understand this classic mecha gaming series better.

Armored Core VI is released for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on August 25.
