New TV Shows And Movies To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, Hulu , Amazon Prime And More

Another weekend is upon us with a fresh slate of shows and movies, from original comedies to fascinating new documentaries and more.

We’re fast approaching the end of October and the happiest day of the year—Halloween—but this weekend’s offerings are much less spooky than last week’s, which saw the release of several new horrific shows and movies.

This week is more about laughs. Let’s dive right in.

Old Dads (Netflix)

I really love Bill Burr but I’m going into this one with a bit of healthy skepticism. Will his brash, satirical comedy translate to a movie? This is Burr’s directorial debut, and the movie is already dividing fans and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes just 21% of critics liked the film, whereas 88% of audiences gave it a thumbs up. This strikes me as a division along cultural lines more than anything, as the movie is a satire of the overly sensitive, overly woke generation Burr enjoys mocking. We shall see!

Big Mouth Season 7 (Netflix)

One of the dirtiest adult cartoons out there, I’m actually a couple seasons behind on Big Mouth. I find it very funny at times, but also a little much. The relentless dirty humor is just a lot and I find I’m often not in the mood—unlike these horny kids who obsess constantly over sex and the myriad ways it ruins their lives.

Peter and the Wolf (Max)

This short film is a retelling of the classic story of Peter and the Wolf with a lovely black, white and red art-style based on Irish singer Bono’s artwork and the book by Gavin Friday, who narrates and who, along with the Friday Seezer Ensemble, does all the music. It looks great!

The Pigeon Tunnel (Apple TV+)

If you enjoy spy novels (and spy movies) you’ll know of John le Carré, the author of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Spy Who Came In From The Cold among many, many others. The Pigeon Tunnel from documentarian Errol Morris (The Fog Of War, The Thin Blue Line) goes deep into Carré’s life and is based on conversations the writer and Morris had before his death in 2020.

Upload Season 3 (Prime)

Somehow I have never heard of this series from Parks & Rec creator Greg Daniels. It’s a science fiction comedy about a world in which you can upload your consciousness into a digital afterlife of your choosing after you die, and has some mystery and romance elements. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it until now and its third season! Do any readers watch this? Is it good? Should I try it?

Killers of the Flower Moon (In Theaters)

I try to include a non-streaming movie each week if there’s something worth seeing on the big screen. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon looks like just the ticket, though at nearly 3.5 hours it’s quite a time commitment. Still, the true story of murders of of Osage Nation people in Oklahoma in the 1920s (based on the book by David Grann) sounds and looks terrific, and is currently a hit with both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. (P.S. I keep calling it “Flowers Of The Killer Moon” by mistake).

Other than that, Loki continues though I’m still not watching because I’m just burnt out on the MCU and especially on the dreadfully dull multiverse stuff. What else? Did I miss anything?

Let me know on Twitter or Facebook. Have a great weekend!
