Google’s Updated Special Offer To Pixel 9 And Pixel 10 Buyers

Google has released its early Pixel 10 Black Friday sale, dropping the price of the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro by up to £200 ($263) alongside a significant boost to trade-in prices. But these deals disappointingly mirror recent Pixel promotions. If you were hoping to see major Pixel 10 price cuts this Black Friday, you may have to look elsewhere or hold on for another month. The other option is to pick up the Pixel 9 series, which just received a major discount.

Update November 16th: Pixel 9 Black Friday Price Cuts Beat Google’s Pixel 10 Deal

Update November 16th 10:57am ET: The Pixel 9 series is the best deal from Google in this early Google Black Friday sale. Last year’s flagship Pixel phones have seen a price drop of between £200 ($264) and a huge £350 ($460), bringing both devices below £550 ($723).

  • Pixel 9: £499 ($656), down from £699 ($787), a £200 ($263) discount.
  • Pixel 9 Pro: £549 ($721), down from £899 ($1182), a £350 ($460) discount.
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL: £699 ($919), down from £899 ($1182), a £200 ($263) discount.

The standout is the Pixel 9 Pro deal at £549. A £350 price drop, from an already discounted phone (it launched at £999 /$1313), is absolutely worth your attention. I would say that paying the extra £50 ($66) to upgrade from the base Pixel 9 is worthwhile for the Pro’s 48MP telephoto lens and higher-resolution display (1280 x 2856 versus 1080 x 2424), which makes a huge difference to the day-to-day experience for screen geeks.

Unless you really want that larger screen, moving up to the Pixel 9 Pro XL (which has the same features as the Pixel 9 Pro) is simply not worth that extra £250 ($329).

Do not fear when it comes to last year’s model. If there’s any brand you can get away with buying an older device from, it’s Google’s Pixel phones. The newer Pixel 10 has a brighter screen (3300 versus 3000 nits), the latest Tensor G5 processor, an identical camera sensor setup to the Pixel 9, and a similar battery size (4,870 mAh versus 4700 mAh).

It is not worth the extra £350 to buy the Pixel 10, even with the current Pixel 10 Black Friday discounts. This is particularly true because some of the exclusive software features on the Pixel 10 will eventually make their way down to the Pixel 9.

Direct Price Drops: Google’s Pixel 10 Black Friday Discounts Fall Short

The Google Store U.K. has launched its Black Friday sale early, which includes discounts for the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro / XL. There is no direct price discount for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but it does come with boosted trade-in pricing—more on that later.

Here’s the current list of Pixel 10 price drops:

  • Pixel 10: now £599 (down from £799) – a £200 discount ($263).
  • Pixel 10 Pro: now £899 (down from £999) – a £100 discount ($132).
  • Pixel 10 Pro XL: now £999 (down from £1,199) a A £100 discount ($132).

Up to £200 off the base Pixel 10 series is absolutely a solid discount, but we have seen it offered a few times this year. Earlier this month, U.S. Pixel 10 buyers were treated to a $200 discount, with the Pixel 10 Pro / XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold getting an even bigger $300 price drop. A mere £100 off the higher-end Pixel 10 models in the U.K. seems small in comparison.

In October, Google sent out vouchers to random Google One subscribers that offered 25% off the Pixel 10 series. That voucher offered essentially the same discount the Google U.K. store is currently running for the base Pixel 10, but it was more than today’s deal for the Pixel 10 Pro / XL. Other promotions have hovered around similar discounts.

While I hope Google rolls out better deals on the actual Black Friday weekend, the company says this current offer runs until December 3rd, suggesting this could be its only Pixel 10 Black Friday promotion.

The Real Value: Google’s Aggressive Pixel 10 Trade-In Bonus is Worth Your Time

This is where the Google Black Friday offer stands out: boosted trade-in prices.

Google has added a £100 bonus to trade-in prices when purchasing the Pixel 10 and an extra £150 bonus when buying the Pixel 10 Pro. That bump has given Google an edge against the competition.

Here is a quick selection of realistic trade-in prices when buying the Pixel 10 Pro (including the bonus) compared to Samsung’s values:

  • Google Pixel 7 Pro: Google Price: £290 ($382), Samsung price: £110 ($145)
  • Google Pixel 8 Pro: Google Price: £343 ($452), Samsung price: not accepted
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Google price: £367 ($483), Samsung price: £356 ($468)
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Google price: £290 ($382), Samsung price: £234 ($307)
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: Google price: £483 ($636), Samsung price: £330 ($434)
  • Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Google price: £588 ($775), Samsung price: £386 ($507)

These are good trade-in prices from Google for the Pixel 10, especially when compared with Samsung, which I consider to be the industry leader in used-phone valuations (although something strange is happening with Samsung’s trade-in prices right now). You will not get a better price than £343 for your used Pixel 8 Pro in many places, if anywhere, than the Google U.K. store. For some reason, used Google phones are not valued highly by other manufacturers or retailers when it comes to trade-in pricing. If you want to offload your old Pixel phone, this is your best option.
