Qobuz Launches Its Christmas Advent Calendar Together With Munich-Based ECM Record Label

Qobuz, the independent streaming service with an extensive catalog of Hi-Res music for streaming and download, has teamed up with renowned Munich-based label ECM Records to celebrate the Christmas season.

Together, Qobuz and ECM are launching a musical advent calendar starting today and running until Christmas Eve. Each day, an ECM album will be released in Hi-Res quality — 24-bit/192kHz — exclusively on Qobuz.

The 24 masters from ECM’s extensive catalog will be available worldwide throughout December only on Qobuz for streaming and download. They will appear on other platforms later. The selection highlights both essential works and rarer recordings from ECM’s defining 1970s era.

World-Renowned Artists

Among the more prominent releases is Bennie Maupin’s The Jewel in the Lotus, a work long considered a pinnacle of 1970s experimental jazz and praised by Pitchfork as “an unknown modern classic from 1974.”

Also included in the selection are essential albums from world-renowned artists, such as Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler, Paul Motian, Dave Holland, Ralph Tower and the recently departed Jack DeJohnette.

The advent calendar is rounded out with recordings from lesser-known musicians such as Wadada Leo Smith, Nana Vasconcelos and Barre Phillips, who have equally shaped ECM’s evolution.

Deeper Insight

“With this advent calendar, we’re spotlighting the vast diversity and enduring relevance of the ECM catalog. The Hi-Res versions of these original recordings offer deeper insight into the artists’ work and an even more immersive listening experience. This makes Qobuz the go-to choice for anyone who values high-resolution sound quality,” explains Mareile Heineke from Qobuz.

“By presenting these 24 albums from ECM’s extensive catalog in Hi-Res quality for the first time, the audiophile streaming and download platform Qobuz once again proves itself as one of the most important providers of high-resolution music and a reliable partner for the label,” added a statement from ECM Records.

A Qobuz playlist accompanies the Advent calendar and will grow daily as each new album is opened. Additionally, Qobuz users can follow the ECM label page to view each day’s new release and automatically find each new album in their personal Release Watch at the ECM label page.
