Apple has announced an all-new iPad Pro powered by the latest M5 chipset. It might seem like an incremental refresh, but a lot is going on with its internals. Apart from the next-generation processor, it also houses custom-designed Apple C1X and N1 chips in the same thin 5.1mm chassis.

The M5 processor brings an all-around performance boost to the new iPad Pro. It is claimed to be 5.6x faster than the M1 model. The M5 chip features up to a 10-core CPU with four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Its next-gen GPU houses a Neural Accelerator in each core, which allows the latest Apple tablet to provide up to 3.5x the AI performance of the M4 iPad Pro.

Apple’s M5 iPad Pro Might Look Familiar, But It Is Built For Speed Under The Hood

The Apple M5 processor also sports a faster 16-core Neural Engine for energy-efficient performance. If you opt for the cellular iPad Pro, you’ll find a new custom-designed C1X modem. According to Apple, it is more efficient and provides up to 50% faster cellular data performance than its predecessor.

The M5 iPad Pro also sports a new in-house wireless networking chip, the Apple N1, responsible for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. It is said to improve the overall performance and reliability of features like Hotspot and AirDrop. You also get the ability to drive external displays at up to 120Hz, and Adaptive Sync support will provide the lowest possible latency in external display performance.

Another internal upgrade comes in the form of almost a 30% increase in memory bandwidth. The new iPad Pro offers over 150GB/s of unified memory bandwidth compared to 120GB/s on its predecessor.

Apple has also updated the storage to provide 2x faster read and write speeds. Moreover, both 256GB and 512GB variants are now paired with 12GB of RAM.

Like the new iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro, the M5 iPad Pro now supports fast charging capabilities. It is rated to charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 40W adapter or higher.

Other than these upgrades, you get the same high-end OLED display with anti-reflective coating, up to 10 hours of battery life, support for Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), as well as the same 12MP Center Stage front-facing camera.

M5 iPad Pro Price And Availability

The new M5 iPad Pro is now up for pre-orders and will go on sale starting October 22 in silver and black color options. Like before, you can choose from 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations.

The price starts at $999 for the 11-inch Wi-Fi model and $1,199 for the 11-inch Wi-Fi + Cellular variant.
