Today’s Wordle #878 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, November 14th

Happy Tyr’s Day, dearest Wordlers!

We’re deep into November, though I’m not sure how we got here so fast. The end of the year is almost upon us, and 2023 still feels like a dream.

Thanksgiving approaches. This is definitely one of my very favorite holidays. In some ways I prefer it to Christmas. I enjoy giving gifts, but find that giving gifts in this context is very stressful. Thanksgiving has all the lovely family gathering and feasting elements of Christmas, but without the pressure of gifting (and receiving). I keep arguing to put an end to it, but not everyone agrees.

On the other hand, I love Christmas. I love lights, the music, the decorations. I’m a big sucker for Christmas movies. I love the story behind it. I just don’t love the commercialism that’s grown up around it. I often hear some political commentator complaining about a “War on Christmas” and all I can think is, the war is all this shopping! The war is how Black Friday has cut into Thanksgiving and people who ought to be with family are working so that shoppers can buy last year’s electronics at a bargain. That’s the war!

Okay I’ll stop ranting. I’m having a rare, prolific morning. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more to say about all of this as the holiday season approaches. For now, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: Cheeky.

The Clue: This word has a triple letter in it.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Not a bad guessing game today, though I was a bit worried after alive and coral both left me with just one yellow ‘A’ and nothing but a sea of grey boxes.

Sauna remedied this situation, giving me two green boxes and leaving me with just three options. I picked sassy for the win!

Today’s Score

A total wash. 0 for guessing in four and 0 for tying the Bot. ZERO FOR THE WIN! Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “sassy” comes from the distinct American English development of the word “saucy.” Its etymology traces back to the 1830s. Originally, “saucy” meant impertinent or cheeky, derived from the noun “sauce,” which metaphorically described someone with a sharp or biting attitude, much like the tang of sauce in food.

Over time, in American English, “saucy” evolved into “sassy,” maintaining the meaning of being bold, lively, full of spirit, or cheeky. The transformation of this word reflects a typical pattern in language evolution, where words undergo slight modifications in pronunciation and spelling while retaining their core meanings.

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also play against the Bot if you have a New York Times subscription.

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
  • 1 point for beating me
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
  • -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
  • -3 points for losing.
  • -1 point for losing to me

You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
