Musk Spills More Cybertruck Details: Beast Mode, Bulletproof Option

On Wednesday Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed more details about the Cybertruck and the upcoming delivery event on November 30.

Musk appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast (at bottom), where he discussed the upcoming electric pickup.

Here are some of the highlights:

Cybertruck weight: 6,000 to 7,000 pounds, depends on the configuration.

Beast Mode: 0 to 60 in below 3 seconds for the beast mode version.

Bulletproof: going full bulletproof, including glass (windows), will be an option. But “bulletproof glass won’t be able to go up and down” because it’s too thick.

“Going full Al Capone. One [of the demonstrations is] emptying a Tommy Gun into the side of the car, a shotgun, and a 45. No penetrations.”

Ground Clearance: “Has the best clear height of any vehicle.”

Production target: “We’re aiming to make about 200,000 a year at volume production. But I can’t emphasize enough…manufacturing much, much harder than initial design.”

A Solar Powered Tesla?

Rogan also asked Musk about the viability of a purely solar-powered car.

“It’s a surface area thing. It’s about a kilowatt per square meter. Normal to the sun roughly…[that is] 90 degrees to the sun,” Musk said.

“You don’t have enough surface area to keep the car going just from the car’s surface area. But if you had something that folded out, you could make it self-sustaining,” he said, adding “like the Starlink satellites do, where you unfold the solar panels. You just need more surface area.”
