Malaysia has consistently been at the forefront of various initiatives aimed at bolstering the nation’s economic strengths through a multitude of digital transformation projects across both the public and private sectors to attract global investors.

The journey toward this goal has been positive, as evidenced by a steady advance toward the target of the digital economy contributing over 25.5% to the nation’s GDP by 2025. In the first half of 2023, Malaysia saw a significant increase in digital economy investments, with a 279% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This roughly translates to a total of RM28.4 billion (US$6 billion).
Additionally, it was announced in August 2023 that the country has secured RM5.2 billion (US$1.1 billion) in investment commitments for Malaysia’s digital economy sector from China (RM3 billion) and Singapore (RM2.2 billion). The prognosis for greater digital investment growth in Malaysia is on an upward trajectory.
Harnessing this exciting momentum, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is organizing a six-week-long tech extravaganza known as Malaysia Digital Expo 2023 (MDX2023) beginning this month. As the custodian of Malaysia’s digital economy, MDEC has conceptualized MDX2023 together with its partners to showcase the best of what Malaysia’s tech ecosystem and digital economy has to offer.
“Malaysia has always been an established business destination for tech investors as it is the most natural location for businesses to land and expand into ASEAN,” says Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC.

MDX2023, A Brand-New Experience
MDEC is no stranger to organizing successful tech events, having put together three successive expos in the past.
This year, MDEC is streamlining these tech events under an umbrella called MDX2023, comprising 18 auxiliary events held over six weeks nationwide, culminating in the MDX Grand Finale from 6 to 8 November 2023. One of the highlights of the Grand Finale is the glamorous industry awards night and gala dinner aim to recognize outstanding individuals in the digital sector.
Held from September 25 to November 8 at various locations in Malaysia, some of the events planned include: the Malaysia Digital Content Festival from September 27 to October 1; World Congress IT on Innovation and Technology from October 4 to 6; #mydigitalmaker Fair 2023 Finale from October 6 to 8; Smart Melaka International Conference and Expo from October 12 to 14; the 7th Selangor Business Summit from October 19 to 22; Smart Cities Asia from October 24 to 25; and NextBigTech Asia from October 24 to 25; to name a few.
The latest addition to the worldwide tech expo and conference calendar shows Malaysia’s readiness to explore and grow, taking its digital ecosystem to the next level while opening doors for businesses to expand into ASEAN and beyond.
